What brought you to the Fellows Program?
I applied to the Fellows Program because I wanted to take a year to broaden my horizons and truly establish a solid foundation in the Lord for the rest of my life. I grew up in a big city and knew that Kinston would provide some great opportunities to experience different types of people and things with which I had never come in contact. I also knew that getting to spend time with our director, Jimbo Perry, whom I had known previously, would be a life-changing experience.
What type of work do you do in the Fellows Program and any other activities in Kinston?
In Kinston, I have enjoyed splitting my time between working for Perry, Perry, and Perry law firm and then for Perrys, Inc., a real-estate management firm. I have also been privileged to get to coach football at Kinston High School and work closely with the Little By Little Program, a mentoring program in the local elementary schools.
What have you enjoyed the most about the program?
I am so thankful that the Lord made it possible for me to be a Kinston Fellow. I have learned so many amazing lessons through spending time with my host family, my work mentor, and my personal mentor. These are relationships that I will cherish for the rest of my life. As a result of the program, I have also been challenged by some informative discussions on issues to which I hadn’t previously given much thought. Finally, I have gained a greater sense of calling for my life and feel more equipped to press on toward the future.
